A Tuscan Style Bedroom

A Tuscan Style Bedroom

So by now, you are pretty clear of what Tuscan decorating is all about, right?  Good.  To sum it up, it is the rural countryside of Tuscany that inspires color.  Old wooden furniture and rustic accessories are representative of Old World flair.

In a Tuscan style bedroom, your selection of wall color can be the backdrop for your cozy resting place, and other furnishings that are located in your space.  As you may know, the topic of Tuscan colors is repeated throughout Tuscan décor, careful selection is important.

Once your color palette is established, accenting is up to you.  Bring out the additional Tuscan colors by presenting them in important pieces.  This can be done through rustic flowerpots that hold your greenery and decorative vases and canisters, which convene beautifully upon bedroom dressers and stands.

Selecting the right fabrics for bedding and drapes add a softness to any bedroom.  With the use of neutral colors as a foundation for your décor, your Tuscan tone will be set off right.  You can find the right curtains and fabrics at great prices at your favorite linens store.  Color is the key!  This means, you don’t have to expect to find a particular Tuscan print.  It is the marriage of your Tuscan colors that makes bedroom decorating Tuscan style a success.

Simplicity is just right.  Additions such as the updating of your curtain rods can make a Tuscan difference.  Put your decorating into the mind frame that everything that you read in this book can be applied to different rooms.  You pretty much have the flexibility to mix and match ideas in Tuscan style décor.  For instance, drawer pulls will add a Tuscan flair on kitchen cabinet drawers just as they will on bedroom dresser drawers.  Get creative.  You can do it!

Apply all the money saving tips that I recommend in this book.  It will help, trust me!  I’ve assisted so many people in that area.  I use these same tips and ideas myself.  Who wouldn’t want to get the best deals when you have the opportunity to?

When you are choosing to decorate a bedroom, keep in mind that you want to make sure that you have a solid focal point.  Pieces like hanging wall art can do just that.

There is a gentleman named David Swerdlow that travels often to Tuscany and takes beautiful pictures of the scenery and people.  His pictures tell incredible stories.  Many people believe that his photographs look like paintings.  David’s pictures are perfect for wall décor and focal point.  And it is so great when you opt to use crisp photos of the Tuscany landscape because true photography provides you with an authentic Tuscan color scheme.  Visit David’s Images of Tuscany website if you would like to contact him and view his photographs.  His work is amazing and reasonably priced.  He’s a really nice guy too, that makes the difference.  Please tell him hello for me.

Other wall hangings that look great in bedrooms are mirrors.   There are an abundance of choices of wall mirrors for your bedroom décor.  You can easily find wrought iron trimmed mirrors and gold trim mirrors at practically any discount store.  Pretty much any rustic type mirror or hanging fits this style.

I absolutely love Pier 1 Imports.  They have great prices and a whole lot of accessories that you will realize will look great in your décor.  I highly recommend you go there.  And one thing that I love about Pier 1 is that when I’m looking for something in particular, a certain style, they work really hard to get in touch with other Pier 1 store locations to help me get what I need.  They also have great sales.  I love that store!  Often, you can find the greatest Italian pieces in quality stores located right in your neighborhood.  When decorating in this style, you can work with these sorts of stores as they can provide terrific accent pieces and furniture pieces that can truly contribute to the desired feel of Tuscany authenticity.

When you are picking your urns and canisters, vary the shapes and sizes.  I love a Tuscan style bedroom with huge urns holding greenery.  Those look great in corners.  It just freshens up the space.  When I assist people with their Tuscan décor, I like to envision what I would want when I function in the particular spaces.  So, a good idea is to think about waking up in the morning and sitting up in the bed of this space.  What do you want to see when you first open your eyes?  What is it that you want to hear?  Do you want to awaken and hear the refreshing sound of a wall fountain?  Do you want to be greeted with fresh greenery next to your bed?  Do you want to smell the freshness?  If you think that way for each room that you are decorating, you will have a great result.  It will be just what you want.  Keep in mind, Tuscan style brings the outdoors in.  Know that first, and then imagine your Tuscan dream space.  You will be amazed at how you already know what you want.

When it comes to furniture, remember that old is great…  Old can be new!  Don’t go throwing out your old furniture.  Restore it.  “Rustic it up”; Tuscanize it!  My mother does this all the time with old furniture.  She has in her guest bedroom furniture that my sisters and I had since we were little pipsqueaks running around the house!  Last year, she took our vanity and bench pieces and stripped the paint off of them and stained them to her liking, and her preferred décor style.

Visit thrift stores and estate sales.  You can find them there.  Check out the resources area for the online thrift shop!  It is a great store to check back and forth in, and at the same time, you are also helping so many needy people by purchasing there.

And you know what?  People forget that friends and family are always redecorating rooms.  Keep an open ear out.  You may be surprised to find that they have antique looking furniture right in their basements!  You’ve got a great chance at finding rustic items and wrought iron scrollwork pieces all through that space!

That is the beauty of Tuscan style décor…  “Old is new”.

Charming pieces come with all sorts of different price points attached to them.  In this style décor, you can certainly luck out and find pieces that don’t end up costing you very much—and sometimes—with rustic finds, you may even discover a time or two, there won’t be a cost at all…  These sorts of Old World pieces often wind up being my favorite pieces of all, and they typically turn out to be ‘THE perfect’ added elements I’ve incorporated in my space.

Acquiring ‘rustic gems’ is special.  And all of the unique finds that are now sprinkled throughout my home are certainly representative.  They accentuate my passion for the Tuscany home design style.

It’s the art of finding and carefully selecting unique, extraordinary pieces for my home that drives my passion for this style décor… yet, it doesn’t stop there.  It’s the entire experience of color and texture selection for walls and fabric as well.  But, that is only a sliver of what I enjoy about creating Tuscan spaces…

It’s important to me, to go for hard stones… to choose natural, durable flooring materials to support the feet of my family… Granite has a gift of beautifying while barely even producing very minimal signs of wear and tear when installed as countertops!

I see Tuscan home design as a creative process that involves envisioning and deciding—how you want to feel in your home… then it’s about putting the proper elements together to produce the desired ‘air’…  colors and textures primarily driving the feel, while natural materials reflect the aesthetics of the space.

That’s exactly what I have found attributes greatly to the incredible sense of satisfaction I experience—not only upon completion of Tuscany design projects, but each and every time I walk through my home—that’s how I feel.  It’s the ambiance of Tuscany that my family lives and breathes each day.
